So I have been reading about how Christians are mad about Starbuck’s new cups.
The story is pretty simple. Starbucks used to have a very festive cup to celebrate the holidays. Here is a picture on how the older forms of the seasonal cups looked.
Alright, seems pretty festive, and in the holiday cheer. Snowflakes, leafs, and ornaments are on the cup. I can see how many people would like this. This year they decided to do something different with their cups. Here is how the cups look this year. What differences do you spot? This new cup is just red. No intricate designs
So they changed how a seasonal cup looks. What’s the big deal?
Many people are taking this as Starbucks trying to take out Christmas. Trying to “start a war on Christmas” by taking off the designs. By taking off the designs the company must want Christmas to be abolished, and we must boycott them! Heathens I tell you! Heathens! Where are the snowflakes (because snowflakes are totally a symbol of Christmas and Christmas only), where are they? Where are the ornaments? (There we go, something more Christmas like) Where does this madness end?
The overreaction shows what is wrong with us.
First of all, why is a cup such a big deal? You drink out of it, and then throw it away, maybe taking pictures of it to post on one of your fifty social media accounts before you drink it. The designs may cheer you up when you first get it, but after the seventh day in a row of buying your favorite coffee drink, it will be just as normal as the white cups to you. I drink out of whatever cup can hold how much liquid I want it to hold. They simply took a design off of it. It’s still red (one of the main Christmas colors) and it still exists. They didn’t completely get rid of the holiday cups, they just changed them. Plus it’s not mandatory for them to have a holiday themed cup anyways. They chose to do it, and people act like it has to be done.
Now since they took off designs people are freaking out. The cup they drink out of not having a snowflake on it is so important. More important than the Russian Jet that was attacked by ISIS, proving they are a threat to major countries. The idea of Christmas is being attacked! (I especially think this is funny, since the change of cups, as I said before, proves that the company still acknowledges the holidays) We have to worry about a corporations cup. We have to fight the evil company that hates religion! We have to boycott them! This is so silly. That’s the best way to put it. Reading this, the only thing I could imagine was it being a joke. It wasn’t and people are actually serious about this. To the point of telling the baristas that their names are “Merry Christmas” and taking selfies with the cups with the “#MerryChristmasStarbucks” Wow such a fierce way to get back at them! Giving them business, promoting it on social media, and making Starbucks much more relevant than it needs to be in the news. Speaking of the news, why is this being covered? Why aren’t actual issues being talked about? Why must it be something like a cup not being the type of cup people want it to be? Anyone who thinks the press should cover this, should not complain when the press covers Kim Kardashian’s ass. Although the press covering either of those issues is pathetic, and showing how distracted we are from reality. Keeping in touch with current events is important, and all the media seems to talk about are issues such as the next big celebrity ass, a cup, how horrible Donald Trump is, or how some cute animal is doing something human like. We push back all the things that are wrong in this world and society, and direct all of our outrage onto something so insignificant.
This doesn’t make sense. Christians are getting murdered in the middle east every day. Instead people are focusing on Starbucks “removing Christianity” from a cup. As a Jew, I care about Christians. I think they are some of our biggest allies. That’s why it is more important to talk about the middle east getting rid of Christians, than a cup not having pictures on it. People think it is pathetic that Muslims are offended by the sight of Muhammad, shouldn’t be offended that a cup changed. People who think it’s ridiculous that people are offended by people wearing necklaces with crosses on them, shouldn’t be offended that a cup changed. This just proves that no matter what race, religion, sexuality, or political party you’re talking about, everyone of them has it’s idiots that get mad over the tiniest of things.
Plus the only crime about the cups themselves is how they look. The old design and the new design both seem aesthetically unattractive to me.
On the first day of Christmas the media gave to me, phony outrage about a cup changing!
